FAQs

There’s a lot of confusing terms and common questions people may have when they are new to Cub Scouts.

Q: What is a Den?

A: It’s a smaller group of boys or girls who meet together with a Den Leader.

Q: What is a “Pack”?

A: This is just the name for when you group all of our dens together. We normally meet as a pack once a month after our den meetings.

Q: What’s an “Akela”?

A: In Cub Scouting, Akela is a wise teacher. This can be the den leader, the assistant den leader, cub master, the adult partner, cub master, a parent or guardian.

Q: What’s “Class A” and “Class B”?

A: “Class A” is your official uniform that you wear to normal den and pack meetings and purchase from the scout shop. “Class B” is a Pack t-shirt if you have one, otherwise just a regular t-shirt. This is worn when we are doing an event where our “Class A” uniforms don’t make a lot of sense, like if we were going on a hike into a creek or if we doing short campout.

Q: What’s the “Blue and Gold Banquet”?

A: Blue and Gold Banquets are a tradition in Cub Scout packs. They are a celebration of the anniversary of the founding of the BSA on February 8, 1910, and therefore usually take the place of the February pack meeting. We also normally use this as an occasion to celebrate our Arrow of Light scouts and they typically cross over to a Scouts BSA troop.

Q: Where do I get my uniform?

A: The local place to get your uniform is the “Dan Beard Scout Shop“. If you go there and tell them what rank/age your scout is they will be glad to help you get all the appropriate uniform pieces. If you just one uniform piece here or there you can always just buy pieces online: https://www.scoutshop.org
